Rose Leadership and Zone Coordinators
The ROSE leadership structure is configured similarly to the OSEA Board of Directors with officers and board members that represent each of the seven zones that OSEA has. The elected leadership positions for ROSE are Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary/Treasurer. Zone I Coordinator, Zone II Coordinator, Zone III Coordinator, Zone IV Coordinator, Zone V Coordinator, Zone VI Coordinator and Zone VII Coordinator positions are filled by appointment. ROSE CHAIR
Bonnie Luisi served as a classified employee in working in Special Education and Behavior at the Hermiston School District for over 22 years. Her union involvement at the chapter level saw her fill each of the chapter officer positions over the course of her employment. She served as the Zone VII director until her accension to State Vice President in 1999, a position she filled for 11 years. In 2010, Bonnie was elected as the OSEA State President and served in that role until her retirement in 2012. Her involvement at the national level included serving as an AFT Vice President, AFT PSRP Program and Policy Council member and AACSE board member. She was awarded a life membership upon retirement and immediately joined ROSE that same year. Since her retirement, Bonnie has served on the AFT National Retiree Board, Hermiston School Board and Oregon Educator Benefit Board. She has been ROSE chairperson for that last five years. She joined ROSE to stay active with OSEA/AFT and works to protect Social Security, PERS and Medicare for her fellow ROSE members and those retiring after us. Bonnie enjoys reading, crafts and traveling to Cabo San Lucas.
ROSE VICE CHAIR
Merlene Martin served as an Educational Assistant in the South Lane School District for 22 years. As a union leader, she held the positions of Secretary, Vice President and President in her local chapter. Merlene served on the OSEA Board of Directors for a total of 17 years. In 2001, she was elected as the OSEA State President, serving in that capacity for nine years. During Merlene’s tenure, OSEA became an affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) which opened the door to a huge national presence. Merlene’s involvement at the national level included serving as an AFT Vice President, AFT PSRP Program and Policy Council member and AACSE board member. She retired in 2011 and at that time was awarded an OSEA Life Membership for her unselfish service. Immediately afterwards, Merlene joined ROSE so she could continue supporting OSEA/AFT and worker’s rights in both Oregon and nationally. ROSE also allows Merlene the opportunity to stay connected with her many union friends and is honored to serve as the co-chair on the ROSE board. In addition to serving as the ROSE Vice Chair, she has been involved with the Finance Committee for OSEA. Within her community, Merlene serves on the Earth and Social Justice Committee through her local church and has also served on the South Lane School District school board. In her personal life, Merlene enjoys spending time with her family and watching her granddaughters grow up to be delightful human beings.
ROSE SECRETARY/TREASURER
Tim Stoelb served for 22 years as the district network technician in the Roseburg School District following a 21-year military career. Tim’s interest in union work was sparked back in 2000 when he observed first-hand what his chapter was able to accomplish during some very contentious contract negotiations. That successful outcome inspired him to join OSEA later that year and over time he served as a building representative, treasurer, and ultimately president of Roseburg Chapter 21. Tim served on the OSEA Board of Directors for a total of 9 years. In 2012, he was elected to serve as the OSEA State President, retiring in 2019. His tenure as president was highlighted by the success of OSEA’s Work Shouldn’t Hurt campaign on both the state and national level as well as seeing OSEA work with legislators to lay the groundwork for unemployment compensation over the summer months for all classified employees. Nationally, Tim served on the AFT Executive Council, the Oregon AFL/CIO board and president of the American Association of Classified School Employees (AACSE). As an OSEA Life Member, Tim continues to stay involved with union activities within ROSE and on state committees, enjoying the camaraderie of his union colleagues. He continues to dabble with computers and is currently webmaster of the ROSE website.
ZONE I COORDINATOR
Missy Johnson served as a classified employee of the Astoria School District for 27 years as an Instructional Assistant whose services were in high demand thanks to her strong math skills. As a member of Astoria Chapter 72, she served as a building rep for many years and held the chapter level office of treasurer. Missy was an active participant on several contract negotiation teams working closely with her colleagues to fight for classified employees. She was instrumental in helping rewrite contract language that greatly benefitted the classified staff. She helped support workers at other schools within her district during the negotiation process. Missy retired in June of 2023 and joined ROSE at that time. Missy is a US Army Veteran and is involved with the Pacific Northwest Lady Veterans, a member of Post 12 American Legion in Astoria, and a Lifetime member of the Astoria Senior Center. Missy devotes time teaching scrapbooking and hand stamped greeting card classes at the senior center. During her free time she helps pack brown bag lunches at her church for the homeless. Missy is an avid bowler and travels all over the country participating in bowling tournaments with her husband Kip.
ZONE II COORDINATOR
Everice Moro served as a classified employee of the Estacada School District for “30ish” years as an Education Assistant. More importantly, Everice was an energetic union member of OSEA, serving as President and Vice President within the Estacada chapter. Prior to her retirement in 2011, Everice served multiple terms as the OSEA State Secretary. Since that time, she has become even more of an activist. She joined ROSE immediately after retirement and has become a strong voice for retirees in the Northwest Labor Council, Labor Community Service Agency, The Alliance for Retired Americans and numerous other labor-related organizations. In her free time, she enjoys being with friends, keeping up on senior issues and helping members whenever needed. Her other favorite interests include cooking, reading, gardening and of course those grandkids.
ZONE III COORDINATOR
Gloria Lundin served as an Education Assistant in the DLC at the high school in the Dallas School District from 1998 until her retirement in 2020. She became an OSEA member immediately upon her hiring. Her union activism did not really take off until 2004 when she attended her first OSEA Conference. Since then, Gloria served as Chapter Treasurer and was a member of the chapter negotiations team. A firm believer in Work Shouldn’t Hurt, she approached the school board about the excessive number of staff injuries being sustained by an older workforce. Together with the district, they developed a way to document ALL incidents of staff injuries.
At the state level, Gloria has been serving on the OSEA Conference Committee for five years as well as participating in events around the area, always willing to lend a hand whenever and wherever she’s needed.
Gloria has an avid interest in the political process and issues that affect active classified employees as well as her fellow retirees. She has been a regular attendee at OSEA’s LED events. Most recently, she served as the campaign manager for a candidate who was running for the Dallas School District Board of Directors. Her perseverance was instrumental in this person getting elected.
After retirement in 2020, Gloria has continued to be involved with the school district serving as a substitute secretary and food service worker which helped her gain perspective on these other positions. She remains active with OSEA as a ROSE (Retired Oregon School Employee) member and welcomes the opportunity to serve her fellow retirees in Zone 3.
ZONE IV COORDINATOR
Marilyn Moss worked for the Eugene School District for 24 years and was an OSEA member of the Eugene chapter that entire time, retiring in 2007. Her initial ROSE membership was a result of ROSE members recruiting her at an OSEA conference. Since then, she has been actively involved with ROSE making a total of 40 years of union activism. Her involvement allows her to enjoy the comradery of the ROSE members and her friends. In her spare time, Marilyn enjoys 5d painting, Bingo and watching her grandson.
ZONE V COORDINATOR
Kathryn Riegger served as a classified employee of the Phoenix-Talent School District for 23 years. During that time, she was an Education Assistant, Assistant Curriculum Director and Title 1 Coordinator. Within the chapter, she served as Secretary/Treasurer, chapter President and board liaison. At the state level, she served as the OSEA State Secretary. Kathryn joined ROSE back in 2014 and began serving as the Zone 5 zone coordinator when the coordinator positions were first established. She enjoys keeping informed and sharing information about labor and education issues and senior programs such Social Security and Medicare. Her hobbies include reading, painting and writing.
ZONE VI COORDINATOR
Bob Bradetich began his career in Oregon in 1983 as a maintenance worker and head custodian working for the Bend-La Pine School District. As an OSEA member during this time, he served on many committees and held the local chapter officer positions of President, Vice President and Treasurer. Actively involved at the state level, Bob served as Zone VI Director, State Vice President and ultimately from 2000-2001 as the OSEA State President. Bob was subsequently recognized for his union service with a Life Membership in June 2005. Many of you may also know Bob from his service as a field representative for many years until his retirement in 2019. He immediately joined ROSE as he wanted to continue to serve and help people. Bob enjoys working with groups who have common goals and interests. In his spare time, Bob enjoys camping, reading and spending time with his 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
ZONE VII COORDINATOR
Delores Piersol served as an administrative assistant in the Hermiston School District for over 21 years. Active in her local chapter, she served as Chapter President, Chapter Vice President, Chapter Secretary and as a Building Representative. Delores retired from the district in 2018 and was presented with a life membership to ROSE from her fellow OSEA chapter members in recognition of her years of service in and for the chapter. She has been serving as the Zone 7 coordinator for ROSE since 2019. Delores enjoys staying active within the union through state level committees, meeting new Hermiston members and staying in touch with her other friends. When not conducting union business, Delores enjoys time with her grandsons, reading, playing tennis, watching movies and listening to music.
